Spools quilt top finished

I just noticed that I never showed off my spools quilt top with the applique finished.  I love how it turned out and I can't wait to get it quilted!

Yup, it's a happy quilt top!

I wish the background fabric was a little darker but I loved the vintage sewing tools it had on it.  It was just perfect for the quilt theme.

Now, what do I do with all of the other spool centers that I have left over?

Working on some applique

As I was working on some applique to go on the borders of my spool quilt, I got to the end and didn't have the right direction leaf left.  I thought I must have cut them wrong.  So, I faked it and used the wrong one... I don't have to have it perfect.  After I finished ironing, I set my iron down and...

I found the piece that I needed.  I had it upside-down. Argh!

Guess I'll be cutting another leaf anyway.  Other than that and the corners it's all fused.

Here's one side. Now, I have a lot of stitching to do.

WIP Spools Quilt

Here's how my spool quilt is coming along.  I showed you a few blocks and now the center is done.  It still gets a border with a whole lot of applique.  The applique is all cut and ready to be fused.  I'm just trying to figure out how to lay out the pieces and iron them when the design goes around the corners.  If anybody has an idea, I'd love to hear it.  I really don't want the borders on while I'm trying to stitch around all those little leaves and berries!
