Happy New Year

 This work in progress is taking me into the new year.

And the rest of it is over here...

It started out as a leader and ender project that I tried to work on as RSC colors were picked through the year.  It has turned into a beast.

Getting ready for the new year means getting things in order and making my quilt list.

A little decluttering helps...

Got these strip boxes for Christmas (from myself lol)

And only a little left over.

Child #2 helped me make my new list on the new computer with the new programs.  I think I'm ready...

More farmer's wife blocks

 I've been making these with a paper piecing technique but have had a little difficulty with a few.  Found a new site that sells the directions for cutting pieces instead.  These 2 are made with the new directions.  They start out with easier blocks so maybe later I will change back to paper piecing...not sure yet.

Giant flying geese

 

Just got back from a quilting retreat.  I finished this quilt top in a flash!  Most of the fabrics are Tim Holtz.  I found the free pattern online.  I'm thinking about making another with all the same background fabric.  Definitely loved this for big print pieces!

Swoon block #9

 

Oh, WOW!  This one is my favorite!  The colors in this pic don't do it justice!  This one will be in the center!  Wish I would have fussy cut more centers!  I can't believe how much I love this one!

Swoon block #8

 

I got a little behind on my swoon blocks for the RSC.  Catching up now.  I super love some of the fabrics in this one!  It kind of makes me want to redo some of my earlier blocks and pick different fabrics but there's nothing wrong with them.  

Farmer's wife blocks

 

A few more farmer's wife blocks are finished.  I like the new light fabric that I added to the group.  The yellow was taking over the first few blocks that I finished.

I'm looking into a different way to put the blocks together.  Not sure I'm a total fan of the paper piecing.  Sometimes it great and sometimes not so great.

Love that I was able to make this quilt.  It was on my make it wish list for years.  I don't think I would have tackled it without the rainbow scrap challenge.  One color a month wasn't so bad.

Bonus for the backing...got this great batik on clearance for 5 bucks a yard so I bought the whole thing and they gave me an end of bolt discount!  Love it!  And I have cut strips for binding for my next quilt out of the cut offs.

Little blocks

 

A few tiny blocks put together while waiting for lunch to get warmed.  That was all the aqua for the moment.

I restarted a different colorway for farmer's wife blocks.  I'm paper piecing them.  I feel like I need to pick out a different light fabric than bright yellow.  The yellow seems to be taking over a bit.

Well, ok, a few of them are a little outside of aqua but are still super cute!  Love these little 6 1/2 inch churn dash blocks.

And I made a point to cut a little extra while making them so I could make these little strips for a future project...

Also, threw my ocean waves on the design wall to see where I'm at with it.  I just need turquoise...might jump ahead to get it done.

Almost caught up on red.  I had hand surgery and it put me behind.

Scrappy trip quilt finish

 

This quilt is in your face bright!  I really loved making these blocks.  For the most part I followed along with the rainbow scrap challenge (RSC).  I used the color of the month as my center.  My friend has decided she wants to make one now.  She is planning on using black for her center.  

My friend Doreen quilted it in orange thread because I wanted to see the quilting on the back.

My sister and I went to Indiana for a one stop shop hop and I found this black binding fabric there.  It has all the perfect colors in the little markings on it.

King size COG quilt finished.  I really don't have a place to get a good pic of this beast.  This is the best I could do.

The back is a tiny black polka dot.  Had it in my stash...bonus!

My friend Doreen did the quilting.  Love when the light in the bedroom shines just right.  She put a lot of fun work into it.

Dresden quilt finish

 

This baby has been a UFO for quite a few years.  Glad to have it finally finished.  It has been gifted to my mother-in-law.   She loves the fuzzy backing for the cold days in Michigan.  She also likes directional blankets so the feet end always stays down.  The blank blocks have directional hearts quilted in them just for her.

Love how this turned out.  Blocks were easy to make and fun colors.  I followed along with the rainbow scrap challenge for the center diagonal color until I got close and just finished it off.  It is now basted, quilted and trimmed...just need to figure out what binding I want.

I was so close to finishing these blocks and I didn't want to wait for the next colors to come around in the rainbow scrap challenge.  So I whipped them together and here it is.  I love my texty fabrics!  I'm planning on hand quilting this but I'm still recovering from hand surgery.

Also managed to get the back pieced and I love it!  It is now basted and ready to quilt once I'm able.

Still missing yellow, red and turquoise.  The colors will be diagonal in the quilt.  I'm looking forward to seeing it with all of the colors.  Hoping those will be the next colors in the challenge but we'll see.

I love how super fast and easy this block is to make.  My Granny used to make this block but much smaller and out of polyester.
