World Culture Day

The things we do for our kids.  This is an appliqued and quilted Canadian flag table runner for world culture day at son #2's school.  Each classroom has a country and his happens to be Canada if you haven't already guessed.  So, tonight I had to whip this thing together.  It was pretty easy once I found the right maple leaf to copy.

He was thrilled.

He's taking it to school tomorrow so they can decorate before the big day.

In the meantime, I've had to set aside a couple of my projects.

Earlier today I did manage to get my treetops all sewn together.  I cut most of the rest of my tree trunks (I think I have 2 more).  Maybe I can get a couple more done after the kids go to bed.  Although, my back feels like it could use a relaxing evening.

I have also finished cutting my strip sets for the summer house postage stamp quilt that I started.  That one will be quick once I have time.  Sometimes, I wish I didn't have to sleep or work.

Summer House new project

I know, I know.  I'm starting another new project and haven't finished any lately.  Trust me, they will all get done eventually.  I just couldn't have this lovely Summer House fabric sitting there.  The other day I came across a tutorial by P.S. I quilt.  It is the postage stamp quilt.  I love working with these beauties.  Is it almost summer yet?

Four

I love the fabric for the trunk on the right.  Now I'm wondering if the trunk on the top is dark enough.  What do you think?

I am up to four out of 18.  I am going to be doing a combination of two patterns by Edyta Sitar.  She has a wall hanging with applique in her book and an individual pattern of a large quilt with no applique.  My plan is to make the large quilt but add the applique from the small quilt.  This is probably going to take me a while.

One down and seventeen more to go.

I've been busy working on my half square triangles.  I need to go through my fabric and see if I can find some more for other tree trunks.  The trunk in this photo is actually feathers but I like it and that's all that matters.  Right? 

Rainbow Room

My son has a thing for rainbows.  This is his newly cleaned room.  I made all the rainbow items shown.  The quilt was a Christmas gift to him a couple of years ago.  I thought the pattern in the center was going to be bigger so, I had to add huge borders to finish it off.  The rainbow basketballs turned out to be perfect for him.  I also crocheted the afghan at the end of the bed.  That is a pattern I will never do again.

And, we finally hung the quilt he made.

We hung it above his bed.  And we used a longer rod so that we can change it out with other quilts (I got it on clearance at JoAnns).

I've finally ironed 373 half square triangles.  These are from an exchange at Fabric Quilt Scissors shop.  They are made from Edyta Sitar's Laundry Basket Quilt HST sheets.  I love how easy they are to use.  Today I worked on taking some of the papers off.  I really want to do her Tree of Life pattern.  Slow but sure.

Terrain Top Done

Well, this quilt top didn't turn out the way that I thought it would in my head.  My plan was to add a couple of borders but since it's not my favorite (and I don't think the fabric I had for borders will calm it down any), I think it's just going to get finished the way it is.

This quick project did get me back in the mood to sew though.  So, I'll still call it good.
